Proclamation #05-14 WHEREAS, Chief Timothy Griffin has been a conscientious and trustworthy employee of the Village of Berkeley for the last 27 years and his dedicated interest and devotion to duty have had a valuable effect on efficiency and morale in the department; and WHEREAS, he began his career on April 8, 1978 as a police dispatcher and then was sworn in as an Officer on March 21, 1980; and WHEREAS, he progressed through the ranks of Officer, Sergeant and then finally to Chief of Police on January 18, 1994; and |

WHEREAS, he has been an active member in Berkeley Youth Baseball Association, West Suburban Chiefs of Police, and the West Suburban Juvenile Officers Associations; and WHEREAS, he has served on the Village of Berkeley Police Pension Board and E911 Commissions; and WHEREAS, his expertise in Police work was invaluable to the organization and his colleagues, and his role as mentor, teacher and friend has influenced the growth and development of many young officers; and WHEREAS, he continues to serve the community and Village with dignity, honor and pride, and WHEREAS, we wish to extend our sincere appreciation for his outstanding performance and duty with the Police Department; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Village President and Board of Trustees that Chief Timothy Griffin be recognized for his many loyal years of service to the Village of Berkeley and the community. Proclamation #05-19 WHEREAS, Gregory Gomez is a lifelong Berkeley resident, father of two children and a Bridgeview Police Officer since January 3, 2000; and WHEREAS, Gregory was enlisted in the Marine Corp. from 1994-1998, and then served as a Sergeant in the Fox Company 2nd Battalion, 24th Marines, 4th Marine Division, as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom II from September 15, 2004 until April 9, 2005; and |

WHEREAS, Gregory was based in Usufiyah, Iraq in the North Babil Providence and worked in the field throughout a particularly dangerous region of Iraq, known as the Sunni Triangle; and WHEREAS, Gregory helped secure the area in Usufiyah to allow for local elections, of which 70% of the total votes cast were from Usufiyah and allowed the democratic process to be preserved; and WHEREAS, Gregory was injured by a car bomb while he was on a routine mission patrol, received the Purple Heart medal on December 13, 2004, and was recommended for a medal for valor related to the incident; and WHEREAS, the citizens of Berkeley recognize the sacrifices made by Gregory being called out of the country, away from home and family, and appreciate the bravery exhibited by facing danger to life and limb; and NOW, THEREFORE, I, Michael A. Esposito, Village President of the Village of Berkeley do hereby proclaim on behalf of the Board of Trustees and the entire community, our deepest and sincerest gratitude to Gregory Gomez for his brave and dedicated service to our country =s Armed Forces.Proclaimed this 19th day of April, 2005. Proclamation #05-18 WHEREAS, Susan Kolzow has been a resident of the Village of Berkeley since her birth, and has been part of the Village of Berkeley family for twelve years; and WHEREAS, the former Susan Gracyas married Arthur, ASmoke,@ Kolzow on July 16, 1977, and has one son and two daughters, and WHEREAS, Susan Kolzow was elected to office in April, 1993 and has served as the Trustee of Public Works and Trustee of Property Maintenance during her tenure with the Village; and |

WHEREAS, she was instrumental in getting the St. Charles Road reconstruction project off the ground through her tireless efforts to convince I.D.O.T. and our legislators of its importance; and WHEREAS, while she was in office, she was instrumental in implementing the House Decorating/Snowman building contest in conjunction with the Annual Holiday Tree Festival, she was instrumental in reviving the Berkeley Banner which is now called the Berkeley Matters newsletter, she also organized the free movie day =s event; andWHEREAS, she has served on the Berkeley Youth Commission board, was active in the girl scouting community, was an active member of St. Domitilla=s Council of Catholic Women, and has served on the West Cook County Solid Waste Agency Board; and WHEREAS, some of the areas in which she has worked to improve the quality of life for Berkeley residents included helping in the organization of a recycling program, planting flowers in the areas around the Village Hall, and donating her time to run the Youth Commission=s corn roast at the annual picnic; and WHEREAS, she possesses the type of tireless energy and concern for her neighbors and the Village as a whole, which contributes to the true spirit of the community; and WHEREAS, the Village of Berkeley has benefited from her involvement and appreciates her service, dedication and commitment to furthering the quality of life for the residents of the community. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED by MICHAEL A. ESPOSITO, President of the Village of Berkeley, that Susan Kolzow be commemorated and remembered for her unique contributions to the improvement, growth and vitality of the Village of Berkeley and through her continuous and valuable efforts and talents will serve to indelibly commemorate Susan Kolzow as a proud resident and valuable village official of the Village of Berkeley.
